Seeking a strategic growth partner to support business expansion
Description
To be completely honest, when we first explored selling the business, we thought we were ready to let it go. But speaking with potential buyers and experienced business owners changed the way we looked at the company.
As we walked them through our operations, lead-generation platform, sales team, workshops, employees, SOPs and project-management systems, many of them asked us the same question: “Why are you selling when the business still has so much room to grow?”
That question stayed with us.
When you are involved in the daily running of a business, it is easy to focus on the challenges and overlook what has already been built. We began as a family-run subcontractor more than 35 years ago. Over time, we transformed the company into a direct contractor with its own marketing platform, sales team, operating systems, workforce and project-management structure.
The company no longer depends solely on the founders to bring in revenue. Enquiries are generated through our own platform, sales are handled by a dedicated team and projects are supported by established systems and processes. We are not a one-man show contractor or a small family shop. We are an established operation with real employees, workers, workshops, suppliers, customers and active projects.
We also realized that taking over a family business like ours is not easy. A buyer would not simply be purchasing a company name. They would be taking responsibility for the people, systems, relationships, culture and reputation that have been built over several decades. After reflecting on those conversations, we realized that perhaps we were not ready to close this chapter.
Our residential division has developed into a strong and stable foundation for the company. We are now building our next growth engine, a dedicated Commercial Design & Build Division serving business owners, landlords and tenants directly. We already have much of the manpower, infrastructure and operating capability. What we need now is additional capital, stronger business guidance and the right strategic relationships to help us grow this division carefully.
We could simply approach a bank for financing. However, a bank can provide capital, but it cannot sit with us to challenge an idea, review an opportunity, share decades of business experience or introduce us to the right people. That is why we are looking for more than money. We hope to meet an experienced business owner, corporate leader or retired professional who wants to participate in the growth of a real local business.
The right person does not need to manage our daily operations. The founders and existing management team will remain fully involved. We are looking for someone we can trust, someone who can exchange ideas with us, challenge our thinking and provide honest guidance as we enter the next stage of the company’s journey.
We initially thought it might be time to let go. But after taking a step back, we realized that we may not be at the end of the journey. Perhaps we are only at the beginning of the company’s next chapter.
And we are looking for the right person to help us build it.
